The PD-75 CD player was introduced by Pioneer in 1991. It featured numerous refinements to put the PD-75 into the reference class of CD players. It featured Pioneer's proprietary Stable Platter Mechanism, where the CD was placed face-up on a precision-machined aluminum platter that spun the CD at its carefully controlled speed. The front door of the unit actually sealed off the CD from any outside influences; certainly over-the-top engineering in keeping with the Elite name now displayed on the front of the unit. The PD-75 retailed for $1200.00 and weighed a substantial 27.5 pounds. Most CD players today weigh half that or less. It had a superb S/N ratio of 112 dB. It was offered again for 1992..Because of its superb performance and build quality, it is still sought by Pioneer Elite collectors more than a decade later. Below is the Test Report for the PD-75 from the September 1991 Stereo Review. Pioneer Ad for the PD-75
